Tips & Advice for Paddlers

Q: Order

If you are a larger group, order your canoes in time so that there are enough free canoes for your date, or so that you can choose from several dates.

Q: When rafting

You don't have to be afraid even if you are rafting for the first time, but above all I want to highlight caution and foresight. Wear a life jacket, especially if you are a child or a non-swimmer. Little Danube is a calm flow, but that doesn't mean nothing can surprise you.

If you get between branches, in no case do not grab them, do not hold on to them, but lie down or lean as deep as possible into the boat. Better to have a scratch on your back or belly, but if you hold on to a branch it is almost certain that you will capsize because you are not able to hold that boat, believe me.

Even if you manage to capsize, try not to panic because that is your greatest enemy. If you packed your personal belongings in a barrel and closed it well, it floats, and so does the paddle. The canoe you are sitting in has anti-sinking chambers. So stay calm, you are not the first or the last to capsize.

Q: Clothing

Choose clothes according to the expected weather. Sandals are most suitable as footwear, but sneakers or flip-flops will also serve. In case of light rain, don't forget a raincoat or poncho. Don't forget to pack sunscreen and use it - especially on your face, neck, shoulders, back and especially the inside of your thighs and knees.

Q: Campsites

You have the option to camp either at public campsites or just outside of civilization. In the case of camping at a public campsite, you must count on a camping fee, which is usually not a high amount per person, but you can at least count on some social services such as showers, toilets, trash containers, the possibility to eat or at least refresh in a buffet or restaurant.

Q: Food and drink

Take something small to eat with you, because the nearest restaurant or buffet may be several hours away from the start of your trip. As for the drinking regime, follow it especially on a sunny day, otherwise you run the risk of dehydration. Consume alcoholic beverages in moderation, because if you overdo it, you lose concentration and forget that you are on the water, which is stronger than you.
